White capitalist patriarchy depends on you hating your body

Today's post includes a much-needed reminder from Natalie Miller, a Master Certified Life and Leadership Coach who helps people live self-honoring, community-evolving everyday lives. Scroll down to read more about her.

Here's her message:

White patriarchal capitalism depends on you hating your body.

It needs you to hate your appearance so much that you either shrink from visibility, or spend hours working on it. This keeps you out of the way.

It needs you to hate your need for food, rest, and care so much that you perpetually overwork and undernourish. This keeps you weak.

It needs you to feel shame for your desires, so that it's (almost, not really tho) a relief to settle for less than you want. This keeps you manageable.

It needs you to despise aging. This keeps you naive.

It needs you to be terrified of being big. This keeps you small.

How bout NO.

No to exploitative work environments and practices.

No to body-shaming ourselves and others.

No to being scared of our gut feelings and deep desires.

White capitalist patriarchy is a shitty, controlling husband who watches TV while you clean up the dinner you made, and promises you an orgasm you never seem to get.

Dump him.

P.S. - We're nearing the end of the month (can you believe it's nearly summer?!), and we'll soon be doing our monthly random name draw for the next hour-long consultation grantee. This is an option made available thanks to a wonderfully generous client. For the month of May, we'll be gifting a one-hour phone consultation to a woman who is a recent graduate (or who will be graduating this semester). If this is you or someone you know simply reply to this email and let us know. If you nominated yourself or someone else for previous months and they also fall into this category, let us know so we can add in that name once again. Best of luck!
